101 Reading Bugs

NO Dogs Allowed but we had 101 kids show up at Brandon to see Mr. Terry Vandervender the Snake Man on Thursday Night.

As he started his very fact filled interactive program kids were still trying to squeeze in and find a seat up front to see all his snakes. The children began listening very attentive and knew all his answers by the end of the show. People still hung around and asked question when he was done.

"Some sing lower...

and some sing higher..." sang multi-talented storyteller, muscian and naturalist, John Stark, who the Pearl Public Library featured on Thursday, June 26. Singing and laughter filled the library with Mr. Stark's program. He began his program by painting the children's faces.
When he finished the face painting he played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on his recorder and asked the kids to name the the song. After the kids correctly named the song , Mr. Stark followed this act with worm and grackle stories.
He sang songs and played his guitar in between stories and the
kids loved it! This group of kids could easily be their own choir. The participated well and embraced all the music.

Fun in the sun outside Brandon Library

We found that having a good ole fashion sprinkler can be all the fun you need well, add a sno cone and some cotten candy to get good and sticky. Then of course you have to run through to wash
off.

Summer Programs and New Cards @ Polkville Library!

YIKES! Things were jumping...and crawling...and flying around...at the Polkville Library on June 23. The CMRLS Puppet Team visited with skits, stories, and bug jokes for the 25 children and 11 adults that attended. Everyone enjoyed the "insect invasion" cake and the butterfly cookies; and many went home with a bumble bee, lady bug, or butterfly adorning their faces! This was THE buggiest place to be in Smith County this week!

This is just one of the 4 bikes to be given as prizes at Polkville Public Library!

There is even more fun to be had this summer in Polkville with David Hays and Creepy Crawly Creations, on June 30, 3:30 p.m. and Inky the Clown with Bug-tastic Magic on July 7, 3:30 p.m.

"What's my favorite card...."

Talented magician, Robert Day, asked the audience. He held up three large cards: two kings and one ace. The audience was wild and shouted "king" or "ace" but Mr. Day's reply was "library card". As a librarian, I was very impressed by his library card compliment and that reading magic books from the library was how he learned how to perform magic tricks.

I spotted one child hold up his new plastic library card and said "I have one of those, see?!?" Mr. Day's program is high energy and the audience absolutely loved the magic and the candy was a nice touch too!

Last Thursday, the Pearl Public Library and its patrons enjoyed the Central MS Regional Library System's Puppets and Puppeteers: Kathy Sparkman, Janet Paczak, and Audrey Read. They entertained and wowed us with their talents and bugtastic jokes! Check out this clip from Tuesday, June 17; the CMRLS Puppeteers returned for an encore presentation for our preschool story time group.
